All the time in the world

86,400 is a number to memorize.  86,400 is a number that helps reorient how we think about some things.  86,400.

Imagine if you made $86,400 per day?  How many days per year would you need to work to cover your household budget?  How much would you make if you worked 1 day per week for 52 weeks?  Go ahead…calculator app…just shy of $4.5mm.

There are 86,400 seconds in every day.  Never a second more or less.  Each one is a gift.  They are not ours to keep, they are ours to use.  There is never an ounce of truth to the statement that we “don’t have enough time”.  We actually have all the time in the world.

The issues we face involve how well we stack little clumps of this gifted stack of 86k+ per day, what we expect to do within those clumps of time, what we expect others to do with theirs, etc.  Sometimes we squander copious amounts of that stack.  Sometimes we milk every ounce of productivity possible from them.

The encouragement today is opportunistic and inviting.  Start by viewing them as a gift in the first place.  No one does anything to earn the next stack.  Every day has the same amount and every day we either receive them as a gift or mindlessly go through the day as though they are an entitlement.

Ask anyone who’s lost a loved one.  More time…that’s usually all they wish for.

Encouraging you today that going fast isn’t the key…going gratefully is.  Grateful for the gift of 86,400 units of time that can be invested and enjoyed.  Pace eases with a heart and mind graced in gratefulness.

Moses was among the greatest patriarchs and leaders of the Hebrew people.  His life is, perhaps, one of the most storied and studied of all people who’ve ever lived.  Amongst all his life entailed, amidst all the work he had to do, he took the time to write out a prayer that the Hebrew people committed to keeping and distributing.  It’s been kept for thousands of years in the book of Psalms, chapter 90.

“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”

86,400 - All the time in the world.

Invest gratefully and generously today, friends.

Peace~
